Zazen meditation is a potent practise that is an important component of the Zen Buddhist tradition

Zen Buddhism is a school of Buddhism that places a strong emphasis on the practise of meditation as a technique to awaken oneself to their real nature. Zazen meditation is a type of seated meditation that was developed within Zen Buddhism. Zazen is a Japanese word that literally translates to "sitting meditation."

Meditation in the zazen tradition entails adopting a precise sitting position, in which the practitioner will typically sit cross-legged on a cushion placed on the floor or on a chair with their feet firmly planted on the ground. The hands are traditionally positioned in a particular manner, which may involve placing them in the lap or on the knees. The eyes are left open and cast a gentle glance downward while maintaining a downward concentration.

During zazen, the practitioner concentrates their attention on their breath and makes an effort to calm their mind by letting go of any thoughts or distractions that come up during the practise. Zazen is a form of Buddhist meditation that aims to develop qualities such as mindfulness, clarity, and a sense of presence in the here and now.

In Zen Buddhist temples and meditation centres, where practitioners are expected to remain still for periods of up to 30 to 40 minutes at a time, zazen is frequently practised. A daily meditation practise can also be done by individuals in the comfort of their own homes using this method.

The practise of zazen is thought to offer several benefits, including the alleviation of stress and anxiety, the improvement of focus and concentration, and the promotion of a sense of inner calm and overall well-being. It is also seen as a way to achieve enlightenment, which can be defined as a greater comprehension of the fundamental aspects of reality.

In general, zazen meditation is a potent practise that is an important component of the Zen Buddhist tradition. This type of meditation is known for its ability to help promote attention, clarity, and inner calm.
